Despite my anatomical mess-ups, I thought it would still be cool if I shared my old ceramic dinosaur art anyway. These are all from last year (except for the mug, which is from January). The mug was made with a sgraffito technique (glaze is applied, then scratched off to show the natural clay color underneath). This one is a box. There's not much to say about it, really. This is another box. I think it came out more nicely than the other one. Then there are my sculptures in the “My Anatomy is Suffering” trio: He’s Crying for a Reason, Why Would You Do This, and Please Make This End. The glaze unexpectedly ran in the kiln, making drippy tears of paleontological incorrectness. I was in a crunch to finish Why Would You Do This, which is another thing I ask that phrase to... Ahh, deadlines. Considering my almost non-existent skill with paints, I think I did a pretty good job on Please Make This End's paint job. Though I've improved quite a bit since making these, I also haven't made any ceramic dinosaur art in the meantime. If I make any more in the future, then I'll be sure to show them here.

I like End's paint scheme, and that mug is super cute. Man, ceramics are HARD, aren't they? I took some classes years ago and I think just about everything I made exploded, and the ones that didn't were stolen from the end-of-year's art show.

Thanks so much! Oh, and they are! At first, I thought it was easier than most traditional arts, but that's when I encountered a thing called "weight." I think I have it mostly figured out now after sculpting this bird: It was still really hard to keep everything anatomically correct, though (I had to go for a stylistic pose on that bird, including paper-thin wings and hooves for feet). I'm so sorry to hear that about your art. I guess it's because you didn't hollow them out well enough, huh? It's either that or they weren't left out to dry for long enough. Just... ceramics, man. No other art has such routine explosions, fire, and carcinogenic matter.

Ceramics are metal as fuck, yep!
Good luck with the bird. What were you thinking of coloring it?

Oh, I finished it a few months ago. I left it white, but I put a semi-matte paint over it.
I just like to use the pictures of the unfired version because they're of much better quality than the ones I take.
