A friendly desert community where the sun is hot, the moon is beautiful, and mysterious lights pass overhead while we all pretend to sleep...
For those curious or not in the know, Welcome to Night Vale is a bi-monthly podcast that is probably best described as NPR meets The Twilight Zone... in other words, it's the local news of a town where things get weird. Really weird. But in between cosmic horror bearing down on the town every other week, you'll find a wonderfully varied cast of characters, each as strange and quirky as the next but maybe like people that could live in your town too. The show is often disturbing in any number of ways--largely leaning towards bleak existentialism--but it's also often funny, offering satirical social commentary or simply through being absurd. But it can be heartwarming and even inspirational as well, so really, expect anything.
Having been going on for just over 3 years now, there's a lot to catch up on if you're new; fortunately it can all be listened to for free.

Night Vale is a thing of beauty and is wonderful. It is impossible to argue to the contrary.

The novel is now available; I've gotten it on audiobook but with a long bus trip coming up in a couple days, I'm saving it for when I have pretty much nothing else to do!
Anyone else getting it? Have you already gotten it? ^^
