Who else likes Walking With Dinosaurs? The documentary series, I mean, not the movie. I videotaped it as a kid and watched them over and over again. A few months ago, I decided to watch it again, and it definitely didn't disappoint. Despite a few palaeofails, I thought it held up very well to time. It does a fantastic job at telling a story about animals without humanising them or making them talk or such nonsense.

It's definitely one of the best dino docs of all time. And given when it was made it certainly wasn't bad accuracy wise. I maintain that they should have added feathers to things like Utahraptor after the first few feathered non-avialae dinosaurs were discovered, but other than that it was pretty much spot on. I really want another documentary like that done today, maybe about different ecosystems and such. And with puppets/animatronics as well as CGI! That was one of the things that made WWD great I think.

Yeah, the featherless Dromaeosauruses (but oddly Ornitholestes with a feathered crest) was one of the few palaeofails I caught too. Postosuchus urinating was also weird, considering sauropsids don't generally do that.
The puppets were amazing, yeah! While far more noticeable than when I was a kid, they really added a lot of character to the close-up shots and made the animals feel far more real and substantial.

The puppets are definitely something I want back. Like Dinosaur Revolution was awesome but the CGI kind of got to be a bit much at times I think. And yeah, Postosuchus urinating... I think they just added that for the shock factor. Like "we can make fake animals pee realistically," that sort of thing...

Utahraptor in Europe, even if justifiable, is kinda weird.

I would love for them to do an updated version of it. And yeah about the puppets vs CGI, I like CGI just fine, but good practical affects are hard to beat.

WWD is the best of the best, even after science marched on. There NEEDS to be an updated version.
And not one messed with by 20th Century Fox

The first trailer didn't have any of the talking with stuff It looked like it was going to be a documentary-movie thing

Then 20th Century Fox got their hands on it...
This is when the funeral happened.
Such a shame. And without the voices the movie is brilliant.
At least there's the Cretaceous Cut.
