So the nemesis theory is pretty bogus, but I still find it compelling. Does anyone else think death from super nova is neat?

I think there's some confusion of hypotheses here: Nemesis is the name of an hypothetical low-mass companion star of the Sun. Its effect would be to perturb the Oort cloud and send comets barreling inward. As for supernovae or gamma ray bursts ending life on Earth, I don't recall anyone coining a name for those events. Torterra, perhaps better even so that you take a different tack: Asimov already covered the above notion.

Oops, sorry. I had read somewhere there was an old theory that a supernova from a local star irradiated the earth and killed the dinosaurs. Silly but neat in a sci-fi way
