What if we want to have a discussion about how the definition of "planet" as it stands now is woefully arbitrary?
I don't really care one way or the other about Pluto itself, but I think the definition of a planet is a mistake.
Go back to the old definition. Let us start adding hundreds of dwarf planets as actual planets. Bring fear to the hearts of all those who would hold hope of counting the planets.
(I'm only half joking - I don't like the current definition of planet for Reasons (and my plan of action is to be an astrophysicist so I'm kind of invested in this haha) but I do see how the logistical issues that would come out of the old definition that allowed Pluto would be... a pain in the butt, to say the least. So... -shrug-)

I guess I meant more along the lines of "no whining about how Pluto isn't a planet"
Like real legitimate discussions are important
I just... have a boyfriend who whines about this a lot XD

Haha, does he just whine about Pluto not being a planet without even backing it up? I mean, come on, the least he can do is show his lack of fear and dedication to following the definition wherever it may lead with a bold statement along the lines of "We shall EMBRACE Eris and Ceres and Haumea and Makemake, and we shall EMBRACE any other objects we might find. Dwarf planets are planets too!"
...Well, that's what I would do. But I'm kind of given to being a bit... theatrical. XD

At first it was just whining, now he says "MOAR PLANETS" which I guess I can't criticize him for since I'm now a Bird Communist

I'm fairly Bird Conservative, if I'm being serious about it, I'd have to go back and check to see exactly where I fall, but I have to say that the Bird Communism debacle has been a serious source of amusement for me. XD

It's hilarious and 100% arbitrary in every single way XD No definition is actually better than another Except Archaeopteryx. Archaeopteryx is literally most arbitrary and isn't based on the new development of any major biological structure that defines "bird." But it was the first "earliest" bird we found so we used it as the definition. It's completely human-perception based. Avialae is the only bad definition IMO XD

I mean, I adore Archaeopteryx a LOT, it's one of my favorite animals, so when I'm being SILLY I probably use Avialae as my definition, but thanks to my dislike of arbitrariness my SERIOUS definition is probably Neornithes. I know, boring answer, but as someone who routinely claims birds as my favorite group of animals I feel like I should be hardline about what I allow into that hallowed realm

Let the record show that even though I am a bird communist I am not a bird elitist with my definition ^_^

Hahaha, you know, I actually like her so much because she's so much like me - when I found out about the bird mom thing I was just so happy because I love birds, I love birds so much, and it just made her even better for me.
I felt like there was no way I could come here, to a forum about dinosaurs, and not have Pearl as my avatar. XD

Oh, I love Connie! I mean she can't compete with Pearl in my favorites rankings but that's only because I've never liked a fictional character quite as much as I like Pearl - Connie is my clear second favorite. But there are so many characters on SU that I love - the show has really had a lot of positive impact on me. But I mean it has all of my favorite things in fiction so I probably could have predicted this, looking back on it.
